Top 5 Books On My Current TBR

Or, in other words, five up and coming books I’m really excited to read whether they’re actually on my physical TBR pile, or on that TBR list in my head. And yes, I can choose books off that list, Shanah over at the Bionic Book Worm said it was perfectly okay to list books coming out next year, we’re looking forward to.

Which include, drumroll please:

  • THE EMPIRE OF GOLD by S. A. Chakraborty, probably one of the most anticipated books on any fantasy reader’s list. Coming out in June, this third and final installment of Chakraborty’s Daevabad series, is a must read and my number one choice!
  • DESCENDANT OF THE CRANE by Joan He has been on my pile for a couple of months and calling me ever since I bought it. I don’t know why I haven’t read it yet, I’ve been so looking forward to jumping in and yet.
  • DEEP DARK NIGHT by Steph Broadribb is the fourth book in her Lori Anderson bounty hunter series, which comes out early next spring and, I can’t wait to catch up with Lori and TJ.
  • WE WERE KILLERS ONCE by Becky Masterman is another highly anticipated read, and the fourth installment of Masterman’s Brigid Quinn series which, anyone who knows me, knows I have devoured and enjoyed because Quinn is such a great character.
  • GOLDILOCK by Laura Lam out April 2020, is a book I heard about quite by accident on twitter and, after checking it out on the author’s website, just knew I had to read a SF thriller.

And you, what’s on your radar/TBR that you’re excited to read next?

Ah, the Lori Anderson series! Kind of on my radar. I don’t really do TBR, but at the same time, i realised i marked maybe 800 books as “interested”. So i kinda went through them to see which one i feel the most urgent about.
I have a few books I defo want to finish this year, like Gemina (#2 in Illuminae), Sadie by Courtney Summers and the Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo – which is what i’m reading now.
Also had high hopes for Fault In Our Stars, but i don’t think I actually like it :/ I’m about 30% in.

I actually have a physical TBR which is about 10 books at the mo, and then, I have lists too, like you, which are probably close to 300-350 books. Most books linger on the list and then, never get read either. It’s hard, hard to find the time to read them all, let alone find them at the library. I’m not buying at the moment (mostly as I just shelled out $1600 for a new computer).

At least I know what I’m getting with a Steph Broadribb book, so far I love her writing style and characters.

Alexandra it seems that the UK Hardback of Empire of Gold is planned to be published on March 2020 instead or June! So maybe you can switch edition it you are dying to read it (like I do).

I really enjoyed Dublin Murders on the BBC recently, and I’ve just brought In The Woods, which the TV show is partly based on. I can’t wait to see how the book stands up against the programme!

Oh, brave you. Sometimes the books are not as good as the TV shows, I found out when I checked out The Coroner series of books, which were nothing like the TV show we saw here, in Canada, Nicola.

Descendant of the Crane has been on my wish list for a very long time! I hope that I can get to it in 2020!

Oh, you and I both, Shanah. Twice I’ve moved it to the top of my TBR and ended up reading something else instead. And now I’m reading JADE CITY so I might be a while.

  6. I really can’t wait to read Beast (and see the cover), the next novel by Matt Wesolowski. His 3 previous books were always published in January so hopefully I won’t have to wait too long now 😊

Ooo, what a great title for a novel, it conjures up so many images, and none of them pleasant. Will have to check that one out, Inge!
