WWW Wednesday

Today I thought I’d take part in WWW Wednesday, which is a meme hosted by Taking on a World of Words, and share with you:

  • What did you recently finish reading?
  • What are you currently reading?
  • What do you think you will read next?

What I just finished reading:

If you are regular, you will know I just finished reading the drugs cartel shoot-them-up, TEXAS SICARIO by Harry Hunsicker, which turned out to be a novel left over from another era. This kind of ‘noir’ might have seemed exciting back in the day with screaming femme fatals, but by today’s standards, left a lot to be desired.

What I’m reading now:

I started reading BLACKLIGHT BLUE by Peter May last night and, while the story telling is much better than Texas Sicario, I’m beginning to think old white dudes in their mid to late fifties have got a problem writing female characters. As Peter May spends an inordinate amount of page space describing how ample a woman’s breasts are, among other sexist bullsh*t. I’m half way through and already I’m eye-rolling!

What I plan on reading next:

I have a choice of three books on the coffee table, all of which I have higher hopes for; KINGDOM OF THE BLIND by Louise Penny, US AGAINST YOU by Fredrik Backman and Alan Bradley’s THE GRAVE’S A FINE AND PRIVATE PLACE, a Flavia de Luce mystery. All three are screaming at me to read them next.

And you, what have you just read or are planning on reading next?

  1. Oops two eye-rolling reads in a row.. in order to avoid a reading slump you better pick one of your fav authors next. Can’t go wrong with Louise Penny or Beckman I think! Happy reading Alexandra ❤️

Yeah, my bad for thinking one might be better than the other, Inge! And I’m definitely going to pick a fav author next, that’s for sure. 😀

Ha! I knew you might say that, as I bought this one, like A Man Named Ove, based on your reviews, Norrie. I loved Ove, and know I’m going to enjoy this one too.

And middle aged white dudes should not be banned from writing, or, at the very least, about women who they know nothing about! 😉

Lol! I love your comment about “old white dudes in their mid to late fifties.”

I hope you enjoy your reads this week!

Yeah, Zoe, I’m beginning to think maybe I should stop reading books by men in this age group! Ha! Ha!

And yeah, hopefully I will, thanks. 😀
