Update Day #40

After this weekend’s events, today I find myself, once again, contemplating how life is changing and the upheaval that is going on, all around us. From the subtlest of changes to the life-changing, and how one lone gunman’s split from reality changed and destroyed so many lives in a matter of hours.

Things will never be the same for those families, those communities, or even Nova Scotia itself. As everyone deals with the aftermath of the tragedy. Compounded and made all the more ugly by the fact people cannot come together and grieve for their loss.

We are all learning to grieve from afar, and deal with not only these kinds of heartbreak, but so much more. As people, isolated by the corona virus, die distanced from family and friends. We must learn to cope on a whole different level than we’ve been use to, up till now.

We are all going to face change, there is no escaping the fact. Life as we knew it, that ‘normal’ we all thought would be there, is gone. Gone forever. And I doubt we will ever go back to how we were, how we lived, or even how we saw the world B.P. (before the pandemic) to what’s coming, the A.P. (after the pandemic).

From how we lived our daily lives, how we bought groceries, how we interacted with one another, to how we will (we hope) eventually greet friends, and so much more.

Just how will our world function A.P.?

It might not seem like something we want to think about right now, amid this global crisis. But don’t be mistaken, there are those who are already planning what comes next. Our governments and their think tanks, people we trust to see us through, are already discussing what comes next.

But make no mistake, you can be sure there are others, too, manipulating, and conniving to create ‘their’ vision of what comes next. You only have to look to what’s happening in America, to see the results of this playing out in the media. A civil war? The collapse of a superpower to be replaced by what? Something far more scarier than the Cold War Soviet Union?

Everything is going to change. And we can either be instruments in making for a better future, or cattle led into a nightmare of our own making. Do not be a sheep and blindly follow. But take control of what you can, make sure your voice is heard.

Work towards a better, brighter, kinder future. We owe it ourselves, to our children, and those that will come after us.

Stay safe out there, and take care.

I don’t even have the imagination right now to envision what life will be like going forward. I do know, however, it won’t look like the most recent past of a few months ago.

As someone who writes science fiction, with a military past, and with the background I have, my mind has already broached various scenarios, and most of them are of hardship, if not, downright unpleasant. But there is also light. It all depends on the next few month, and how everything unfolds, Jonetta.

          Oh, and then some, Jonetta!

I am sure we will all have to make greater changes as this goes on, and adapt to a new world order, Jonetta. And we may find ourselves doing things our grandparents did, or even our parents, especially veggie gardens and the like.

Alex it was the same here after the terrorist attacks three years ago! We needed some time to get back to a new normal.

This is what makes this so much more heartbreaking, that this has become the norm, Sophie. That people have to adjust and cope with these life shattering events. It’s so sad.

Things will not be the same, no doubt about it. But you’re right that we can take things in a compassionate, kind, affirming direction. That’s actually very empowering.

Indeed, Margot. I think we’re all beginning to understand that nothing will go back to what we thought of as normal. And, yes, it is within each of us to create a better future for ourselves, and everyone on the planet.
