It’s Tuesday so it must be Top 5 Tuesday from Shanah over at Bionic Book Worm, and this week’s topic is: Books That Made Me Laugh.
Hmm … this is a tough one because I read predominantly crime and speculative fiction at the moment, so not many laugh-out-loud moments to be had there. I’ve had to rack my brains to come up with titles, and instances, but finally, I dug deep and here are my choices.
#1 : THE PRINCESS BRIDE — William Goldman
“Who are you?”
“No one of consequence.”
“I must know.”
“Get used to disappointment.” — Dread Pirate Roberts
#2 : THE COLOUR OF MAGIC — Terry Pratchett
“Let’s just say that if complete and utter chaos was lightning, he’d be the sort to stand on a hilltop in a thunderstorm wearing wet copper armour and shouting ‘All gods are bastards’.” — Rincewind discussing Twoflower
#3 : THE HITCHHIKER’S GUIDE TO THE GALAXY — Douglas Adams
“A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.” — Ford Perfect
#4 : LAMB — Christopher Moore
“It’s wildly irritating to have invented something as revolutionary as sarcasm, only to have it abused by amateurs.” — Biff
#5 : FURIOUSLY HAPPY — Jenny Lawson
“Some people might think that being ‘furiously happy’ is just an excuse to be stupid and irresponsible and invite a herd of kangaroos over to your house without telling your husband first because you suspect he would say no since he’s never particularly liked kangaroos. And that would be ridiculous because no one would invite a herd of kangaroos into their house. Two is the limit. I speak from personal experience. My husband says that none is the new limit. I say he should have been clearer about that before I rented all those kangaroos.”
Need I say more?
