My April Reading Plan

Yes, there’s a plan. There’s always a plan. But sometimes, the plan doesn’t always work out, and then? You need a Plan B. Doesn’t everyone have a plan B? And … eh, where was I going with this? Oh, yeah, the books I’m planning on reading in April, since March was such a bust. My books from Indigo arrived yesterday and, when I took them out to look at the covers, I discovered they all feature water. Either the sea or a lake, and all stormy looking … hmm! Anyway, here’s my proposed list having already finished THE LIAR: KINGDOM OF THE BLIND by Louise Penny THE GOLDEN TRESSES OF THE DEAD by Alan Bradley US AGAINST YOU by Fredrik Backman RESURRECTION BAY by Emma Viskic THE DARK LAKE by Sarah Bailey SALT TO THE SEA by Ruta Sepetys TWISTED by Steve Cavanagh And you, what reading, if anything, do you have planned, or will you just wing it?

Reading Slump

After such a great start to the year, reading 8 books in January and then, 7 books in February, I seem to have hit a brick wall. Or something. I’m in a sump. I’ve only finished two books this month, and one of those wasn’t that great a read—FORTY WORDS FOR SORROW. I had hoped the next book, A LIFE TO KILL, would be a much better read and, it was. Up until a point. I was getting absorbed into the story and then? It moved elsewhere and, basically, changed focus. One minute we’re in Afghanistan with British soldiers on patrol, and all hell is breaking loose … and then the focus shifted to the platoon’s base camp back in the UK and the families waiting for their loved one’s return. It was a little jarring, so much so that I didn’t pick the book up for a couple of days and then? I’d lost interest. I tried reading the next chapter but all I wanted to know was what happened to the soldiers. Frustrated. …

New Arrivals!

Oh how I love getting parcels through the post from my favourite online bookseller: Indigo/Chapters. The three books I ordered have arrived, and I now have a great slate of titles to read and review, in March. The new arrivals are all installments of various serials. The Liar is the one Steve Cavanagh I haven’t read, other than his soon to be released, Twisted! I’ve been watching two drama shows on TV, The Coroner on CBC, which is inspired by the Jenny Cooper series by Matthew Hall, hence wanting to read the books. And Cardinal, which is inspired by Giles Blunt’s series. I can’t wait for someone to do a show of Cavanagh’s Eddie Flynn series. THE LIAR by Steve Cavanagh [Eddie Flynn #3] A LIFE TO KILL by Matthew Hall [Jenny Cooper #7] FORTY WORDS FOR SORROW by Giles Blunt [John Cardinal #1] I also started reading Shell Game, the latest V. I. Warshawski novel by Sara Paretsky this week and, all being well, should finish that one later today. Which means, of course, I should …
