A Day of Heartbreak and Sorrow, Day #39

This morning, as people begin to try to process what has happened in Nova Scotia, Canada, with the killing of at least 16 people, in what we are still being told is a random act of senseless killing. Everyone across the country is in shock. With people saying, ‘this doesn’t happen here.’ Except, it did.

There is confusion as details are slow to emerge about what happened late Saturday night and throughout the day, Sunday. When a man, apparently dressed partially as a RCMP Officer, and driving a mock-up RCMP cruiser, went on what can only be described as a rampage.

There are no words, no comprehension, of the pain and horror families and friends are going through right now for this tragic loss of their loved ones. Why does this happen? Why does a person snap? We might never know. As we may never know why the shooter chose these people, as again, we’re told, he was no relation too, nor does it appear that he knew any of his victims.

All we do know is that 51-year-old Gabriel Wortman killed 16 people, including an RCMP Office, and life for the families of the dead and Nova Scotia as a whole, will never be the same again.

My heart breaks for each and everyone one of them, and like many, I cried feeling helpless not knowing what to do other than grieve for these families.

Please take a moment to think of these families and this community in your thoughts and prayers today. And where ever you are, please, be safe and take care.

I’m so sorry they now have this awful kinship with the US. It distresses me that this has touched Canada.

Thank you, Jonetta. These events are so rare up here that the entire country goes into shock, because it’s so difficult to understand why. And not a kinship we hoped for, during these awful times. But, here we are. Heartbroken.

I have family who live in Dartmouth, not a few miles from where this happened, and everyone is grieving. The people in NS are open hearted and friendly, so this is just a huge tragedy.

Crazy and utterly without reason, Norrie. Everyone is devastated.

It’s Canada’s largest mass murder, which is saying something. It’s a nationwide tragedy that’s hit hard on everyone, and such a shock to a small community. So many lives devastated, Sophie.

It is so heartbreaking and senseless, isn’t it? Standing with Nova Scotia…

I don’t think we will ever understand what happened, and more importantly, the why. It just breaks the soul that this keeps on happening and there is little if anything we can do to stop it, Margot.
